  • School Audition Grants | Be You Ed.

School Audition Grants Applications for 2023 are now closed. Bookmark this page as we run these grants every year. If you're a young person who wants to audition for performing arts universities , you're expected to pay a fee to audition. Fees have inflated to $80 to $90 per school - so if you want to apply to study at just two of these universities you will be expected to pay at least $160 for the opportunity. These fees are not covered by a HECS- or FEE-HELP loan, and are non-refundable. There are so many young people who aren’t able to easily pay this fee. We don’t want this to be a barrier to enter the music theatre industry (especially when these courses are covered by loans available for these Commonwealth supported places ) We believe these fees are a large barrier to entry for people who are disadvantaged, and we want to help. We’re giving out grants to people who find it hard to audition for performing arts schools due to the expensive audition application fees. What are the details? We’re giving grants for those who have encountered barriers and/or have struggled to access our industry due to experiencing disadvantage. In line with our philosophy of diversity, access, and inclusion, we will be awarding these grants to people who are disadvantaged, prioritising those who identify as indigenous, black, and people of colour (IBPOC). How do I apply? To apply please fill out the form below. In the application form there's a space provided for you to share links / attach clips of you performing. The application process is a chance for us to hear your story, learn about you and why you’d like to be considered and to see your passion for performance, so don’t hold back! How will we make the decision? Our panel will look at your answers to our questions and decide on our grant recipients by assessing: The efforts taken by the individual to get to this point The difficulties the individual may have faced The individuals level of passion for the craft The foundational skillset of the performer The impact the grant would have for the individual Our decision making will be strictly in line with our Conflict of Interest policy in which, if a panel member has worked with an applicant in a meaningful way, or has a personal connection that makes the panel member biased, this panel member will declare their conflict and not be allowed to offer any advice on the selection of that applicant. • Dance Grants | Be You Ed.

Dance Grants Apply now! Becoming a "triple threat" is hard, especially when you don't have the financial ability to spend on foundational dance classes to support your technique. Classes are often one of the easiest ways to get better at dance, however they can be costly and can lock the process of upskilling behind a paywall. So at Be You, we’ve decided to help level the playing field and make dance training more accessible with our Be You Dance Grants Program, offering you financial support to upskill yourself. This program is designed for aspiring artists seeking further training in preparation for tertiary education in music theatre. We believe these fees are a large barrier to entry for people who are disadvantaged, and we want to help. What are the details? We’re giving grants for those who have encountered barriers and/or have struggled to access our industry due to experiencing disadvantage. At this stage, these grants will be available to people who are both residents of Victoria, and plan to spend their grant money within Victoria. How do I apply? • Lucky Stiff | Be You Productions

Acknowledgement of Country We would like to acknowledge that we create and perform on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We are privileged and honoured to be able to continue the long history of storytelling on this land. About Lucky Stiff Content Warning: Use of Fake Firearms & Partial Nudity We're back!!!! After a hit season in 2023, the team behind Be You Productions' Lucky Stiff is back for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2024 and have created a new company called Bold Offer Productions. Our 2024 production is bigger, bolder and bubbling over with joy! Lucky Stiff is the heartwarming tale of a man, a corpse, and a whole lot of money. Harry Witherspoon, a down-on-his-luck shoe salesman, inherits a fortune from his dead uncle, but there's a catch: he has to drag the old man's embalmed body to Monte Carlo for one last hurrah. Along the way, Harry finds love, adventure, and the true meaning of family (even if it's with a deceased relative). Lucky Stiff was first produced Off-Broadway in 1988, with Book and Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Music by Stephen Flaherty (also known for their work on Seussical the Musical, Anastasia, Ragtime, and Once on This Island). It is based on "The Man Who Broke The Bank At Monte Carlo" by Michael Butterworth. First produced by Playwrights Horizons, Inc. Licensed exclusively by Music Theatre International (Australasia). Our Cast Chelsea Hyde (she/her) Annabel Glick Chelsea’s recent theatre credits include Lucy Grant (Bright Star - FabNobs), Pickles (The Great American Trailer Park Musical - PEP Productions), and Lucy (Helene Dunlop’s ‘Mrs Bin’ - Cracked Actors Theatre Summer Reading 2022). She is forever grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Australia’s rich history of storytelling in this colourful, chaotic tale. Daniel Cook (he/him) Harry Witherspoon Daniel is a passionate creative/actor/singer/dancer/anything else they’ll let him do.
