Be You Inc is running another cabaret competition,

though this time we’re trying something a little different.

Our “Cabaret Entree” is an opportunity for audiences to sample many different cabarets before deciding which will be further developed.

It will consist of eight finalists performing ten minute snippets of their proposed work to an audience including professional judges, who will decide on which finalist will be given the opportunity to have their cabaret idea produced by Be You Inc.

The competition will take place on December 8 2019.

We’re calling on performers and artists who’ve dreamt of creating a cabaret, but haven’t had the opportunity to fully workshop their ideas, nor had access to production teams to bring their dream to life.

Passion, a collaborative spirit, and love of stories are the only prerequisites.

We’re looking for passionate storytellers who can affect an audience through their performance. If you feel you might have what it takes, we want you to apply!

How will you choose the finalists?

We will choose the finalists for our Cabaret Entree through an audition process consisting of submissions and in-person pitch meetings, starting now!

This in-person meeting will take place on 28 September.

And for creatives?

We’re also interviewing creative team applicants, and matching these creatives with our finalists. You do not need to provide your own creative team, though we encourage you to have people you like to work with apply too.

How does the process run once I'm a finalist?

Throughout the coming months, the finalists and their teams will meet with Cabaret Entree’s Artistic Director Bradley Dylan (producer/director of Broadway Unplugged) to workshop, plan, and bring their vision to life.

There will be informal performances at the end of October and November leading up to the contest in December for our finalists to get feedback from each other and our invited professional guests.

What will I gain?

By the end of this process, we hope that the experience gained from workshopping, the feedback sessions and one-on-one coaching will put both finalists and creative teams in a place where they may create and stage a cabaret by themselves.

How is the winner chosen?

The winner will be chosen by a mixture of audience vote, professional feedback, and feedback from the Be You Inc team on how the finalist navigated the whole process. They will receive a fully workshopped and produced cabaret that will be performed during the Melbourne Cabaret Festival in 2020.

Is there money involved?

This opportunity is provided on a volunteer basis, though if we pay all expenses related to the competition through ticket sales we intend to give a share of this back to our finalist teams.
